Showmanship classes judge the exhibitor. The score covers how the animal is presented and controlled, how well it has been groomed and trained to set up and stand, and the handler's own turnout and ring awareness. A young exhibitor with an ordinary animal can still win outright, which is why the class carries weight at youth and 4-H fairs.
