The midway is the part of a fairground given over to mechanical rides, games of chance, and concession stands, usually operated by a traveling carnival company contracted for the run of the fair. It is what most people picture when they hear the word fair, and it runs separately from the agricultural competitions. Of the fifty-four agricultural fairs on the 2026 New York calendar, fifteen list rides. The other thirty-nine do not, though a fair with no rides listed may still have a carnival.
