In harness racing a Standardbred horse races at a trot or a pace while pulling a lightweight two-wheeled cart called a sulky, with the driver seated behind the horse. It is the form of horse racing historically tied to American agricultural fairgrounds, and many New York county fairs include it, among them the Erie, Clinton, Franklin, and Wayne County fairs. Goshen, in Orange County, has a harness racing track listed as a National Historic Landmark.
