A grandstand is the permanent covered seating structure that faces a fairground's racetrack or arena. It is where a fair puts the events that need a seated audience in one place: harness racing, truck and tractor pulls, demolition derbies, rodeo, and often the headline concert. Grandstand events commonly carry a separate ticket from gate admission, so a fair can be inexpensive to enter and still cost more once you sit down.
